Pourquoi on l’a choisie
Pour ses 30 ans, OBEY n’a pas choisi un tee-shirt ou une affiche de plus, mais l’outil de base du street art. Lotus Blue fait partie des trois bombes Montana Colors habillées par Shepard Fairey en juin 2019 avec Beyond the Streets, et c’est un choix cohérent : Fairey travaille avec cette marque depuis des années, en atelier comme sur ses murales. Limitée à 500 exemplaires et livrée dans son présentoir en bois, c’est un objet d’artiste à part entière, pas un simple produit dérivé.

Lotus Blue est une bombe Montana Colors éditée en 2019 à 500 exemplaires, en collaboration avec Beyond the Streets. Elle est livrée dans un présentoir en bois destiné à l’exposition, doté d’une fenêtre en acrylique, et la signature de Shepard Fairey y est reproduite par tampon. La série compte trois bombes conçues pour les 30 ans d’OBEY : Lotus Blue, Cut It Up et Target. Chaque bombe était vendue 35 $ à sa sortie, dans son coffret en bois. La sortie a eu lieu en juin 2019, avec une expédition initialement réservée aux États-Unis.

Lotus Blue ne doit pas être confondue avec les bombes Montana Colors x OBEY de 2012, une série antérieure également en boîte bois et à 500 exemplaires, mais avec d’autres visuels. La version standard porte une signature tamponnée : les exemplaires signés à la main proposés en galerie sont des pièces à part, à vérifier au cas par cas. L’édition est épuisée ; on la trouve désormais sur le marché secondaire, où un présentoir intact, sans rayure sur la fenêtre ni choc sur le bois, fait toute la différence pour une pièce destinée à l’exposition. La bombe reste un aérosol pressurisé, à stocker loin d’une source de chaleur, et son transport, en particulier aérien, est encadré par des restrictions qui peuvent limiter les modes d’expédition.

Know before you buy
Don’t confuse Lotus Blue with the 2012 Montana Colors x OBEY cans, an earlier series also boxed in wood and limited to 500, but with different artwork. The standard version carries a stamped signature: hand-signed examples offered by galleries are separate pieces to be checked case by case. The edition is sold out and now lives on the secondary market, where an intact case, with no scratches on the window and no dents in the wood, makes all the difference for a piece meant to be displayed. The can is still a pressurized aerosol, to be stored away from heat, and its transport, especially by air, is subject to restrictions that can limit shipping methods.
